This year is special: it is the 15th time CGAL has been part of the GSoC!
Over these 15 seasons, there have been:
89 projects (84 completed, 4 failures, 1 abandon)
Within the completed projects:
~70% of the projects ended as being merged into the main CGAL repo the remaining ~30% are not failures, but generally projects that explored a new or alternative (but ultimately inferior or undesired) way to do something 30+ different components of CGAL were impacted (mesh processing, triangulations, arrangements, …)
37 different mentors, including 12 “1-shot” mentors, usually academics that co-mentored the implementation of a publication
In addition to these obvious benefits for CGAL and mentors, GSoC was also regularly the entry point for a student who later pursued a PhD.
